About

The Project to form a Higher Learning Institution at Kibogora was initiated in June 2011, as the culmination of a dialogue over several years between the Free Methodist Church in Rwanda, Kibogora Hospital and the surrounding community. The formal request to operate was lodged in November 2011 with the Minister of Education and Minister of Justice by founders: APMLPE “Association des Parents Méthodistes Libres pour la Promotion de l’Education (=Free Methodist Parents Association for the Promotion of Education). The Association received the approval of the Ministry of Justice on January 7, 2012.

Following review by the Ministry of Health, Kibogora Insitute a.k.a Kibogora Polytechnic received Cabinet approval to open as an institution of Higher Learning on August 31, 2012. After a Dedication Service on September 16, 2012 it commenced operations on September 17, 2012 with the induction of first year students in the Faculty of Health Sciences and Theology. Following an HEC (Higher Education Council) audit of the remaining proposals, the determination by Cabinet on October 10, 2012 added the faculty of Education and the Faculty of Business and Development Studies with options in Economics and Management and Rural Development.

Our definitive license was granted in October 2014 and the institution received its authorisation as an Institution of Higher Learning by Ministerial Order 07/2015 of 2015, published in Official Gazette 03/15. This confirms the legal name as Kibogora Polytechnic.

The General Assembly of 9th May 2015 agreed to transfer the ownership of the institution to the Free Methodist Church of Rwanda.

Proposals to extend the programs and option in all faculties were lodged with the Minister of Education in May 2015 and have resulted in new programs in Biomedical Laboratory Science, A0 in General Nursing, Postgraduate Diploma in Education, Education options in Economics/Entrepreneurship and Sciences. A collaboration with ICPAR has resulted in Professional Accounting programs and proposals for Small Business and Finance and Accounting are in the final stages of determination.
