KP's Midwifery Programme gets International Accreditation to Offer Advanced Diploma in Midwifery
The International Confederation of Midwives has internationally accredited Kibogora Polytechnic`s Midwifery program for offering Advanced Diploma in midwifery. This follows a rigorous evaluation of the various midwifery education standards against the ICM global midwifery education standards.
The International Confederation of Midwives is an international institution based in Netherlands with a mission of strengthening Midwives` Associations and to advance the profession of midwifery globally by promoting autonomous midwives as the most appropriate caregivers for childbearing women and in keeping birth normal, in order to enhance the reproductive health of women, their newborns and their families.
Dr. Dariya Mukamusoni, the Vice-Chancellor of KP says that this is one of the key milestones that KP achieves. `Being international accredited to offer midwifery program is an indicator that the program meets international standards. We are very proud of this achievement`, she says. Mr. Chris A. Kanakuze, the Head of midwifery program and the entire community of midwifery department also expressed their pride for this accomplishment and assured to keep the momentum for more achievements.
The ICM`s Midwifery Education Accreditation Programme (MEAP), is a key educational mechanism to assess whether pre-service midwifery education programmes meet the ICM`s global education standards. MEAP offers accreditation approval based on an independent assessment of an institute`s midwifery educational programme(s) to determine the extent to which it meets ICM standards. MEAP not only serves as a quality label but enables consistent midwifery education processes and graduate outcomes.
